Blog 3 – What today’s Songwriters have forgotten

Interesting theory from discussions that I have had with my listeners/Uber riders during the last 9 months, is that many or most songwriters around the world today have forgotten that they should be telling a story for their listeners to ‘get’ their song and therefore connect with it. Many are depending on the beat etc to popularise their songs and would never be in contention for Song Lyrics of the Year.  Have we been reduced to simply the beat or tune? It doesn’t feel whole to me. What do you think? I simply write from my heart and from my many experiences in life and I believe that is connecting with my listeners. I guess I can call them ‘fans’ but I still have not got used to that yet.

Also, we should keep in mind that many became hit songs but aren’t necessarily good or the best songs. How many times that you hear a ‘hit’ song and said to yourself “Why?”

Many hits today had a load of backing, support of a record company etc that got them their ‘success’. That is a Catch 22 because to get a record company to back you up, one needs at least 200,000 followers or likes to be taken into consideration.

In fact, these days it isn’t good enough to have a good song to have success, but these days you must be good at promoting it on Tik Tok, Instagram and other social media. (For more info on this subject please refer to Blog 5- I NEED HELP)

Let me know your thoughts on this and who you rate as your Top 3 best songwriters are and the song that they released that became your favourite.

Thanks

Footnote : This topic could end up as another Blog for any fellow artist that are putting their music out there, not making money and struggling and telling about their stories. Why? Because everyone or 99% musicians face the same path and struggled before getting that one break that opened the path to fame & fortune. So if you’re another struggling songwriter/musician you can tell your story and open a new Blog. Thanks
