Blog 1 – Started composing songs
One of the most asked questions is how did I start? Or how do you write your songs? (If only I had a dollar lol)
Ok I will try to address the two questions separately or in two parts and this is Part 1 and part 2 is in Blog 2……
How did I start?
I would best describe it as “Insane’ “Amazed” and ‘quite incredible” period and it really started in May 2021. Please note that prior to this I had no inclination about being a songwriter because I never knew I had it in me. I was on Sabbatical leave in KL, Malaysia spending time with my parents who were aging when the Govt announced the 3rd Three-month lockdown due to Covid. I knew that there was a limited movies to watch on Netflik, having seen most during the 2 earlier lockdowns and had for long time wanted to play the guitar so quite spontaneously, I went and bought a blue Ibnaz acoustic guitar for approx. US $220!
I had to self-taught myself with 6 main chords and within a month was playing a decent tune and strumming ok. By month 2, I started writing songs and tunes, with words and chords scribbled on an A4 size paper or in a small handbook. I had to record immediately the songs on my mobile phone recorder otherwise I would forget them the next day! Crazy but you see, I don’t know how to write music.
Since June 2021. Until now Oct 2024 I have written over 148 songs. I try to write different tunes, lyrics, styles etc but there would be some songs that are similar, but I do have many that differs and those would even stand out.
I am sure there are others that have faced similar journeys but to have come this far and producing quality songs like I have to date within a period of around 3 years is truly an amazing accomplishment which I still think of as being INSANE!
But I am dedicated and passionate about my music. There are songwriters that reckon they have the best songs ever, but I wondered if I was good enough and if I was bias about my songs. So about 9 months ago I started driving Uber to cover expenses and would play my songs to my riders and it’s their responses from my listeners/riders that I can now call Fans that I am thankful because of them and their encouragement that gave me the confidence to move forward and as one said to me after 20 mins listening to 6 songs that I had to “bring my music to the world”. I’ve had couples and individuals delaying for 5 to 10 mins before getting out of my car after reaching their destination, only to hear more of my songs and opening a big discussion etc. Thank you to all my Uber riders/listeners. I am grateful to you and to God for this gift.
